Beyond the Gym: Why Most Residents Don’t Know How Our City Government Works

This morning at the gym, a few people recognized me from Nextdoor and it honestly made me smile. 😊

Every day on this journey, I meet people who truly love McDonough but don’t always know how our city government is structured or who represents them.

Here’s what I’ve learned: I haven’t met one person who can name all three of their City Council members, not one.
Most don’t realize that McDonough has one district council member and two at-large council members who represent each citizen.

Even when residents know one, they rarely know all three and that’s okay because that’s where education and engagement come in.

For the past two and a half years, I’ve been showing up and not just driving around the community; engaging in it.

From chairing boards to attending meetings, leading Citizens 101 sessions, and participating in community events, I’m committed to helping residents understand how local government works and how their voices matter.

Leadership isn’t about titles it’s about presence and participation.

Together, we’re creating a more informed, connected, and empowered McDonough.

Let’s build a better McDonough, together. 🌺
