Henry County Citizens Academy “Why It Matters” Post
Why does a Citizens Academy matter?
Because people care more deeply about a community when they understand how it works.
One of the things I appreciated most about the Henry County Citizens Academy is that it gave residents an opportunity to go beyond headlines, assumptions, and quick opinions. It gave us a chance to learn. To ask questions. To better understand the departments, services, and systems that shape everyday life in our county.
That kind of access matters.
A Citizens Academy helps residents become more informed and more connected. When people understand how local government works, they are better equipped to engage, advocate, and contribute in meaningful ways.
It reminds us that community is not just where we live. It is something we help build.
For me, the experience created a deeper sense of pride, belonging, and appreciation for Henry County. It strengthened my commitment to stay involved and to keep encouraging others to do the same.
If we want stronger communities, we need more informed and engaged residents.
That is why programs like this matter.
