Getting Involved in Henry County Opened My Eyes to New Opportunities for Business and Community Leadership

When I moved to Henry County in 2022, I made a personal decision that I believe has shaped so much of my journey here: I was going to get involved.

I did not want to simply live here. I wanted to understand the community, connect with the people, and learn how things worked. So I joined the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, signed up for a local gym, and started attending city and county meetings. I began showing up in rooms where decisions were being discussed, where relationships were being built, and where I could listen, learn, and become more informed.

That decision taught me so much.

The more I attended meetings and engaged with local leaders, the more I realized that local government touches nearly every part of our daily lives, including the success of our local business community. From public services and infrastructure to economic development and community planning, there are so many ways local government impacts the environment in which businesses operate and grow.

One of the things that has excited me most is seeing how many opportunities exist for local businesses when they understand how to engage. Many business owners are working hard every day, but they may not always know where to start when it comes to understanding local systems, identifying resources, or finding ways to connect with the people and processes that shape our community.

That is one of the reasons I have remained committed to staying informed and involved.

Through opportunities like Leadership Henry, I’ve continued learning more about the people, programs, facilities, and systems that help keep Henry County moving forward. Experiences like these deepen your understanding of the community and remind you that being present matters. There is so much value in being in the room, asking questions, listening closely, and learning how everything connects.

Because of that, I’m excited to share that I will be hosting a Local Government 101 session specifically for business owners later this month.

This session will be designed to help business owners better understand how local government works, why it matters, and how they can become more informed, engaged, and connected within the community.

I’m looking forward to sharing this opportunity with those who want to grow their understanding and strengthen their connection to Henry County.

Being informed is powerful. Being engaged is important. And being in the room can open doors you did not even know were there.
