More Than Just a Vote: Understanding the Work Behind the Decisions
When I moved to Henry County in 2021, I had no idea how much local government would become part of my everyday life.
From attending city council meetings across our cities to spending time at the courts, I’ve learned that what we see publicly is often just the outcome, not the work happening behind the scenes.
Congratulations to our newly elected mayors and council members, and thank you to the judges who serve our community daily. What we, the public, often sees are decisions and outcomes, not the preparation, dialogue, and responsibility that come long before them.
Recently, my husband and I visited a judge’s chambers, and my husband joked, “I feel like a celebrity.” Moments like that make civic spaces feel real and accessible.
I’m also excited to share that Citizens for McDonough Day at the Capitol is officially happening this February at the Georgia State Capitol. Newsletter subscribers will receive details first.
I may hear the word “outsider” from time to time, but this is our home and service doesn’t require permission.
Let’s keep building a better McDonough, together. 🌺
