What Moving to McDonough Taught Me About City Priorities
I’ve been reading Your City Is Sick by Jeff Siegler, and one line hit me hard: Cities often end up catering more to visitors than the people who actually live there.
That idea came to mind this week while I’m out of town spending a few weeks with my daughter, son-in-law, my grandbaby and waiting on my newest grandbaby to arrive. I visited a new place and realized how confusing it feels when systems aren’t clear and you don’t know where to go. It reminded me of what it felt like when I first moved to McDonough.
As a newer resident, it wasn’t always easy to get plugged in. Yet I came here because I chose this community and many new residents feel the same way.
Long-time residents carry the history, newer residents bring fresh energy and together, we all want McDonough to be a place where everyone feels welcome and informed.
Growth brings challenges, yet it also brings people who chose this city on purpose because of what’s already been built.
Let’s keep creating a community that works first for the people who live here every day.
I’m enjoying this special family time, and I look forward to connecting with you all when I return.
Let’s keep building a better McDonough, together!
