My First Time in Politics: Why I’m Loving the Journey of Service

This is my very first time being involved in politics, my first time running, canvassing, walking up to people and sharing information about my city and I have to say… I am loving it!

I truly enjoy meeting new neighbors, citizens, business owners, veterans, seniors and young people, listening to their ideas, and learning what matters most to them. So many residents have shared ways they believe we can build a better McDonough, together and those conversations remind me why I stepped up in the first place.

I’m especially excited when I meet people who tell me this is their first time getting involved in politics or that they’ve “never really been political.” Hearing that I’ve given them something to think about, or even inspired them to vote, means everything to me. That’s what this journey is about: helping people see that their voice and their vote matter.

What I’ve learned is that 99% of the people I meet have never really thought much about local politics. Many have given up because they don’t think politicians care. Yet when they meet me, they realize I do.

I’m not trying to be a politician. I want to be a public servant, someone who listens, learns, and leads with integrity for our entire community.

We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. Sometimes we have to agree to disagree for the greater good of McDonough yet disagreement doesn’t mean there isn’t still love or respect.

To everyone who’s been kind and respectful, thank you and even to those who haven’t, you’re alright with me too. We all have our opinions, and I appreciate the opportunity to listen, serve, and grow through this journey.

🌺 Let’s build a better McDonough, together.
