Citizens for McDonough Advocacy Day at the Georgia State Capitol

We had a wonderful day at the Georgia State Capitol for our first Citizens for McDonough Advocacy Day, and I want to sincerely thank the residents who took time out of their schedules to join us.

Our goal for the day was simple: to encourage everyday citizens to experience the legislative process firsthand. Participants had the opportunity to observe the General Assembly, sit in committee meetings, tour the Capitol, and connect with one another while learning how decisions are made that impact our communities.

Civic engagement does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it simply begins with showing up, asking questions, and being present in the room where important conversations are happening.

We also want to thank Georgia State Representative El-Mahdi Holly for supporting this effort. Representative Holly was my representative when I first moved to Henry County and has continued to be an invaluable resource. His accessibility and commitment to community engagement set the bar high.

Our discussions throughout the day focused on issues that affect many of our residents, including:

  • Support for veterans
  • Advocacy for seniors
  • Opportunities for small businesses
  • Awareness of legislation impacting homeowners associations (HOAs)

Most importantly, the day reinforced the idea that building strong communities requires informed and engaged residents.

We look forward to continuing these visits and encouraging more residents to join us in the future.
