Why I Sent a Letter Regarding the Homeless Living at Avalon Park
One of the things I believe strongly about is speaking up when something impacts our community while also leading with compassion.
Recently, I sent a letter to city leadership regarding concerns about restroom accessibility at Avalon Park and the need for stronger conversations around resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.
I want to be clear: homelessness itself is not my concern. In my early twenties, I experienced homelessness myself for a short period after a series of unfortunate circumstances. Because of that experience, I understand how quickly life can change.
My concern is making sure public spaces remain accessible to children, seniors, veterans, families, and visitors, while also asking an important question: if someone has been living in or around a park for more than a year, are we truly connecting them to the support they need?
Communities work best when we can balance compassion, accountability, accessibility, and resources.
I’m sharing the letter publicly because I believe transparency matters, and I welcome respectful dialogue around solutions that help both residents and vulnerable populations in our community.
